Description

The MOC3023 consists of an infrared LED optically coupled to a photodiode that drives a triac. When the LED is activated by an input signal, it emits infrared light, which is detected by the photodiode, triggering the triac. This enables the control of AC loads such as motors, lamps, and heaters without a direct electrical connection between the control and load circuits, providing safe isolation.

Features

  • Zero-Crossing Triggering: The MOC3023 provides zero-crossing detection, meaning it triggers the triac at the point where the AC voltage waveform crosses zero. This reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI) and inrush currents, making it suitable for both inductive and resistive loads.
  • High Isolation Voltage: Offers electrical isolation of up to 7500 Vrms between the input and output sides, ensuring safe operation in high-voltage environments.
  • Low Input Trigger Current: The MOC3023 requires a very low input trigger current, making it more sensitive and easier to drive with low-power control circuits such as microcontrollers.
  • Compact DIP Package: Typically available in a 6-pin Dual Inline Package (DIP), which is easy to integrate into various circuit designs.
  • High dv/dt Immunity: The device is designed to handle high rates of voltage change without false triggering, ensuring reliable operation in electrically noisy environments.
