Description

The 6N139 consists of a gallium-aluminum-arsenide (GaAlAs) LED optically coupled to an integrated photodetector. The photodetector includes a photodiode and a high-gain amplifier that drives a transistor output. This configuration allows the device to transmit electrical signals across an isolation barrier, protecting sensitive components from high voltage and ensuring signal integrity in noisy environments.

Features

  • High Data Rate: Capable of transmitting data at speeds up to 1 MBd (Megabits per second).
  • Electrical Isolation: Provides high electrical isolation between the input and output, typically rated up to 5300 VRMS.
  • Low Input Current: Requires a low LED input current, making it energy-efficient.
  • Wide Operating Temperature Range: Operates effectively within a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
  • TTL and CMOS Compatible Output: The output can directly interface with TTL and CMOS logic circuits, providing flexibility in various digital applications.
  • Open-Collector Output: Features an open-collector output, which allows for easy interfacing with external circuits.
  • Low Power Consumption: Designed for low power operation, making it suitable for energy-sensitive applications.
  • High Common-Mode Rejection: Provides excellent immunity to common-mode transients, ensuring stable and reliable signal transmission in noisy environments.

Specifications

  • Input LED Forward Voltage: Typically 1.4V (maximum 1.8V) at 10mA forward current.
  • Input LED Reverse Voltage: Maximum 5V.
  • Isolation Voltage: 5300 VRMS for 1 minute.
  • Data Rate: Up to 1 MBd.
  • Supply Voltage (Vcc): Typically 4.5V to 5.5V.
  • Output Voltage: Up to 20V.
  • Output Current: Maximum of 60mA.
  • Propagation Delay Time (High to Low): Typically 1.5µs.
  • Propagation Delay Time (Low to High): Typically 2.0µs.
  • Common-Mode Transient Immunity: Typically 1000 V/µs.
  • Operating Temperature Range: -40°C to +85°C.
